Poetry of Voruta

Anykščiai
Anykščiai are called sometimes the capital of
Lithuanian literature. Here or in the environs such classics of the
Lithuanian literature as Antanas Baranauskas (1835–1902), Jonas Biliūnas
(1879–1907), Antanas Vienuolis-Žukauskas (1882–1957) were born and working.
Near the sources of the Lithuanian writing stands Konstantinas Sirvydas
(1579–1631), born also in the environs of Anykščiai. Particularly
remarkable trace in the Lithuanian literature was left by the famous poem
by Antanas Baranauskas “The forest of Anykščiai”, which was written here
in 1858–1859 (it was translated to Polish, Russian, English, Ukrainian,
German, Japanese).
Not accidentally writer Antanas Vienuolis was “involved” into
the history of discovery of Voruta, and after the beginning of the
archaeological research on the Šeimyniškėliai hillfort poems about this
hillfort and the castle of Voruta began here to appear.
Here are the best examples of the new poetry of Voruta (texts in Lithuanian):
Rimantas Vanagas. On the Hillfort of Voruta (1993)
Veronika
Dikčiuvienė. On the Hillfort of Šeimyniškėliai (1997)
Lina
Adamonytė. Letter to a Tribesman of King Mindaugas (2001)
